Multi-cast Surface Hubs
My department has multiple Surface Hub devices around the meeting room floor. We have many instances where it would be helpful to be able to control the devices from a central device - a hub, a computer, or similar. The goal here would be to project a screen, a slide or a video across the devices. They are hung on the walls throughout the floor - one example is when we need to usher groups of people back into the main room, we would love to cast an alert on all screens. Is there a way to do this on the Hub devices? We have considered starting a Zoom or other video call across them all, but that seems like an overly complicated workaround. Let me know if anyone has any ideas or experience with this.21Views0likes0CommentsSurface pro 7 becomes very slow after sleep mode
Hello, I have a surface pro 7 for ~3 years now and I remember experiencing this slow behavior after sleep mode like for ever. It has an Intel Core i5 - 1035G4 CPU. Having observed the CPU speed from Task Manager these last days, I see that normally it runs around 1.8 GHz when I don't do much, and when the problem arises after sleep mode, I see that the CPU speed does not get greater than ~0.5 GHz. These last days I also found solutions on the internet about reseting the graphic card with W+Shift+Ctrl+B or by turning off the self panel refresh but these do not solve the problem. I also set the min processor speed to 100% from control panel, did not work either. I also tried another solution that suggested to set the number of processors to 8 in MScondig > Boot > Advanced Options. For this last one, after sleep mode, the CPU speed was not stack at 0.5 GHz but around 1 GHz, still was slower than normal. So any other ideas out there? Overall, this PC is very disappointing. It costed 1500 EUR and made by windows, one would expect it should perform better than an HP/Dell/whatever manufacturer, but its performing worse and it has been a pain in the **bleep** like for ever. I read the same problem arises for later versions pro 9, pro 11. Surely the sleep mode creates problems for all laptops, no matter the manufacturer. I experience problems after sleep mode for an HP laptop I own and for my Dell work laptop. But the problem from the surface is the worst because the PC becomes unusable. You have to shut down to get the speed back. Anyway, if you have any idea, please let me know. Thank you!135Views0likes2CommentsSurface Pro 7 not booting off USB for Ubuntu install
Hi all. I've got a Surface Pro 7 that's getting a bit long in the tooth. I've read that various Linux distros run well on it. Ubuntu in particular has quite a few detailed set-up guides. So I decided to give it a shot. The problem is, the Surface won't boot from a USB key. The UEFI/BIOS is set to boot from USB first, before anything else. I've tried: -- 5 different USB keys (various sizes (apparently 64GB don't work) from 32GB down to 😎 -- writing the Ubuntu ISO to the key using balenaEtcher, Rufus, and the dd command from a command prompt in a Linux virtual machine. -- setting the security setting in the Surface's UEFI/BIOS to off and third party (not Microsoft Only) -- turned off all other boot devices, so that it ONLY tries booting from the USB -- openSUSE Tumbleweed instead of Ubuntu -- Windows 11 (for poops and giggles, just to see) instead of Linux -- turned on the Surface normally, and while holding the down volume button. Nothing works. It just sits there with the white Surface/Windows logo on a black screen, like it's mockingly judging me, until I eventually turn it off. I've left it like that for as long as an hour, just to see if the trhing would figure out what I wanted it do do. How on earth to I get the thing to actually boot off USB and into the Ubuntu installer?1.1KViews0likes2CommentsSurface 10 Pro Business - Driver controller sata
I have to format a Surface 10 Pro Business without using a recovery image but using the Windows 11 key. The SSD disk is not recognized because the Sata controller driver is missing. Can anyone tell me the model or the driver download link? Thank you90Views0likes1CommentCharging Microsoft Surface Pro 9 via the USB port
Hello, One of the biggest advantages of using the Surface Pro 9 was that I didn't have to carry the charger with me. However, recently I have noticed the charge doesn't last as much as I want to. I do have a car charger that I can use in my car. I can also carry a small wall charger. I have this power bank https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083SD4DQN but it has the old USB-A ports and this doesn't charge the surface. I tried a wall charger and that also doesn't work. I was wondering do I need a specialized USB cable, or specialized power bank to charge the surface?102Views0likes1CommentUnable to pause Smart Charging
The option to pause Smart Charging and charge battery to 100% has disappeared from Surface App. My battery is hovering at 76-77% and I am unable to charge it to 100% to prepare for working away from power supply. Was able to do this for over a year and the option is simply gone - tried repairing, resetting and reinstalling Surface App with no effect. This is on Surface 9 Pro for Business i7 (2038) / Win11 Ent. Please advise.663Views2likes3CommentsSurface Pro 7 & 8 Suddenly Not Loading Certain Websites and Apps
I moved to a new house and have all the same routers and services. After being here almost 2 weeks, both my Surface Pro 7 & Surface Pro 8 suddenly quit loading certain websites and apps. First noticed Twitter, then Amazon, speed test sites, etc on my Pro 8. Any app that requires internet access won't load. The device always shows that the device is connected to the internet. My email, calendar and some other sites load fine. I went through every diagnostic with a MS agent online and he finally gave up and considered it a hardware issue. The device was under warranty and so I shipped it in for service. I have a Pro 7 also, so I just began to use it. It was fine for about a day, then the same thing started happening. We have changed DNS services, gone through Surface Diagnostic Tool, updated, etc. Every other device in the house is working fine but the Surface devices. I finally got the idea to tether to my phone...and everything works!! So, if I get off of the internet in the house (which it has worked flawlessly with for 2 1/2 yrs) and tether to an outside source, it works fine. It has to be something peculiar to Surface devices. Anyone have any ideas?173Views1like3CommentsWindows 11 Surface Pro 5
Hello, I'm Shawn, a proud Surface Pro 5 user who wishes to get Windows 11 officially, it has outperformed Windows 10 during betas and the official version is great. but that had to be done through the registry. I would like to ask that the surface team please ask the windows team or get this sorted out so I can windows 11 offfically. Thank you 🙂 Shawn PS: Cross posted from Windows 11 thread86KViews6likes12CommentsSurface Laptop 2 Keyboard Issues (Hid Mini Driver)
Upon imaging a Surface Laptop 2 with our basic image from the older Surface laptop model the Surface Hid Mini Driver driver fails to power and thus the keyboard doesn't work. if I revert back to 03/27/2017 driver it works fine... but then the laptop automatically updates itself to the latest version that brakes again. I have blocked the update in WSUS. Is anybody aware of a fix for the latest driver? Does the PC somehow think its a Surface Laptop 1st gen and somehow downloading the incorrect driver possibly? I also downloaded the latest firmware/driver package from MS and tried that version and it also doesn't work. Seems to be the same exact version that gets downloaded from Windows Update.Solved69KViews0likes24CommentsLaptop Recommendations
I currently have an old MacBook pro 16' from late 2019, it is constantly heating up and crashing. I use my laptop specifically for college and use applications like Excel. Would you recommend the surface pro, or the surface go 3.Are there any key differences?8Views0likes0CommentsMicrosoft Surface 7 XIP Laptop continues to impress.
The Microsoft Surface 7 laptops with Arm Snapdragon chips are a real game changer. Impressive build quality and keyboard keys that do not go shiny like the MacBook Air M3. My typical usage - emails, internet, Word, PowerPoint, Excel. battery will last two days, no fan noise heard so far. Good design features - fully laminated screen, thin bezels, thin chin, non shiny keys, reasonably thin, not as thin as M3, but not noticeable, magnetic charge plug with side entry, better than 90 degree MacBook Air M3 plug, upgradeable M.2 2230 ssd, 16 GB ram. Question - Crucial P310 1TB PCie Gen 4 NVMe 2230 M.2 looks like a good upgrade if more storage needed. However will the Crucial P310 generate more heat ?4Views0likes0CommentsSurface Pro 6 running super slow
Haven't put anything new on it. Visit the same websites daily. Just outta nowhere this thing is super slow the past few days. No viruses or malware. Windows up to date. Ran "a program" ...everything is clean and up to date. Chromium was running in the background, stopped that. Nothing running at startup that shouldn't be. (only Logitech keyboard/mouse, Avast, RealTech audio, and SecurityHealthSysTray) Task manager says 3% CPU usage - 49% memory usage. Any ideas? Thanks!10Views0likes0CommentsBuild Quality?
I have the original Surface Book. After about 2 years the screen started separating from the lid due to battery expansion and Microsoft replaced the unit even though it was out of warranty which was great. Now at nearly 7 years the screen has completely separated again and I am searching for a replacement but I'm unsure whether to trust another Surface. What does anyone else think about build quality compared to other brands. Should I consider a Surface Laptop? *This post is not about troubleshooting a Surface Hub device, it's about troubleshooting my personal ASUS GU604VI laptop that a Surface Hub 2S Recovery Image on USB has altered and potentially destroyed* 🙁 Backstory: I had a task at work to reset a Surface Hub 2S device. I followed Microsoft's instructions (here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-hub/surface-hub-recover-reset) to create a Windows 10 Team 2022 Update recovery image on a USB device. I then accidentally booted my own personal laptop from the USB drive - I was trying to put a couple of files on it and put it in my laptop before turning the laptop on (I should not have used my personal laptop for this in hindsight). The laptop booted automatically from the recovery flash drive instead of my internal SSD. I then realized I what was happening and shut it down. After that point NO Windows OS or other Windows install media will boot on my device. It appears that simply booting from the Surface Hub 2S recovery media made firmware-level changes to my laptop and is preventing me from booting into any non-Surface 2S Windows installation or even reinstalling Windows via boot from any Windows install media. I can boot Linux. Here is what I've tried to resolve it myself: Confirmed boot order and all the basics within the BIOS/UEFI firmware Reset BIOS to defaults Reflashed my BIOS (tried multiple different BIOS version levels) Disabled Secure Boot Wiped Secure Boot keys (returned to Setup Mode + restored default keys) Wiped my hard drive and tried to reinstall Windows (can't boot from Win11 or Win10 install media - I've tried created it using the Windows Media Creation tool and Rufus from the latest official Win11 and Win10 ISOs. None will boot into Windows setup, all return me directly to the boot device selection screen. Tried to boot to Windows Recovery Drive made from another Win11 system - same situation, returns me directly to the boot device selection screen Tried to boot Hiren's Boot CD on USB (based on WinPE) - same situation as above Tried multiple USB ports Tried multiple USB flash drive brands Tried disconnecting my laptop battery and letting it sit (CMOS reset type-of-thing) Tried booting directly from the various Windows .EFI files using shell.efi from UEFI - none will boot, they do nothing. Launching Linux .EFI files boots them just fine My laptop is a UEFI-only device. I cannot boot it into CSM/BIOS mode. I have to use UEFI boot. Power cycle/hard reset procedure with holding the power button for 1 minute Removed my SSD and tried to get the laptop just to boot to a Windows setup USB stick - same situation, returns me directly to the boot device selection screen Called ASUS, they want me to send them the laptop for an $85 diagnosis. It's out of warranty by 4 months. They will likely have to replace this motherboard, and this will cost big bucks. Tried to follow Microsoft's documentation on how to 'Migrate to Windows 10/11 Pro or Enterprise on Surface Hub 2S' (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-hub/surface-hub-2s-migrate-os#update-uefi-on-surface-hub-2s-to-enable-os-migration) thinking that this may hold the key to being able to unlock the boot capabilities to allow my laptop to boot to normal non-Surface Windows again. I can get to the 'Update UEFI on Surface Hub 2S to enable OS Migration' step but cannot complete it since I don't have the Surface-specific UEFI options to install the DfciUpdate.dfi management settings file from USB. I finally installed decided all was so screwed up that I might as well actually fully install the Surface Hub 2S Windows 10 Team 2022 Update on my laptop and go from there - so I did. It booted and fully installed successfully and now I have a Surface Hub 2S laptop. It boots, but not to what I want it to, of course! I want to be back at normal Windows 11. I found one or two others having similar issues online (but not many people!): These three posts are from the same person - I tried but cannot use his solution because I cannot get Shift+F10, Windows+R, Ctrl+Shift+Esc or any other combo to give me the ability to launch a cmd.exe window. I think this is because the Surface Hub 2S is running in Windows S mode. https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/unable-to-boot-uefi-from-sata-or-usb-after-connecting-surface-hub-ssd.3757053/ https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/unable-to-boot-to-uefi-via-sata-or-usb-device/655da88e-e5fe-4077-a9ce-5915e918cc90 https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsHelp/comments/tt4d8v/unable_to_boot_to_uefi_sata_or_usb_installer/?rdt=57727 This post is extremely close to my situation, probably the exact same root issue https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/i-have-interesting-situation-please-read-carefully/3470d7eb-b62d-48db-afda-b7c85c3991c0 Could you please help me get my laptop back, Microsoft engineers? I can't seem to get support for my Surface 3 laptop, which is still under warranty. There is something wrong with my charging port. I got a new charger (thought that might be the issue) but the same thing happens - light is on but laptop doesn't charge. When i fiddle with the position of the charger something it starts to charge but then stops when i let go of the charging chord. Seems like it's a hardware issue. Windows is up to date. Here are the issues I'm experiencing when trying to get support: There is no Microsoft store here in London, the website listed Curry's as a support provider. Called Curry's - they said that information is wrong. they don't provide support for Microsoft products Tried to contact customer support through the chat - keeps crashing was able to get a customer service person to call me - got disconnected after 2 mins got another person to call me. after 40 minutes of waiting for them to enter a ticket, they said they had an issue and couldn't do it Told me to do it myself online - but I keep getting an error message showing an image of a melted popsicle and saying something went wrong try again (tried about 10 times) Tried to call support again today and whenever I enter my number it says there is an error (see below) I feel like this is kind of insane. why can't i get help for my product? One thing's for sure, I will never be purchasing a Microsoft product again....29Views0likes2CommentsMicrosoft Teams support now available for Surface Hub
According to the Surface Hub Update History, the August 2018 cumulative update brings support for Microsoft Teams meetings on Surface Hub. I should note that I haven't yet tried this on a release build, so I don't know yet if the instructions for the Insider Preview build are the same, or if this even works fully (as there are no instructions yet in the admin guide). For those wanting to try, you will need to install the Microsoft Teams for Surface Hub (Preview) app from the Microsoft Store, and you'll also need to configure 2 SurfaceHub CSP settings (either via MDM or provisioning package): ./Vendor/MSFT/SurfaceHub/Properties/SurfaceHubMeetingMode Set to integer, values below: 0 - Skype for Business is the preferred app on the Surface Hub's Start Screen, however you can still join Microsoft Teams meetings. 1 - Microsoft Teams is the preferred app on the Surface Hub's Start Screen, however you can still join Skype for Business meetings. 2 - Microsoft Teams is the exclusive app on the Surface Hub's Start screen and Skype for Business is disabled ./Vendor/MSFT/SurfaceHub/Properties/VtcAppPackageId Set to string. Value must be Microsoft.MicrosoftTeamsforSurfaceHub_8wekyb3d8bbwe!Team yoabar has made an excellent blog post showing all the steps here. I thoroughly recommend reading through this before deploying Teams. If anyone gives this a go, let us know below how you get on! Hello, I've been in contact with various support technicians trying to solve this issue, my case went to the L2 level, where I was offered either to return the unit or keep it and maybe post a support ticket here and in the feedback hub, which I am doing now. The MS Designer Compact keyboard and the numpad units have a built-in sleep mode switch, which turns off the keyboard in order to preserve battery life. This is all fine, except when the keyboard goes in sleep mode during use. I’ve noticed this behavior while working with it and sometimes it goes to sleep while typing. The keyboard needs a second or two to turn back on and does not register the inputted characters during the wake-up phase. The advice I was gives was: Change the power plan and all sub-categories to performance (which I already had enabled) Changing the power mode of the devices, Bluetooth adapters and HID devices to have the option “allow device to turn on PC” to enabled and “prevent PC from disconnecting device to save power” to off. Press fn+S+O on the keyboard for three seconds to manually override the keyboard’s sleep mode Nothing worked. I assume it’s a hardware setting, which could maybe be resolved by a firmware update. I also assume there’s no way of fixing this with tinkering in Windows. IS there a possible fix to this or a firmware update in the work to address this? I’ve seen many support tickets describing this issue in relation to other MS keyboards and mice, and no fix was to be found. D.7.1KViews0likes2CommentsType Cover will not Connect
I’ve tried everything — up-to-date, restarting, turn off and on, troubleshooting, running device tests—and I can’t get in contact with Microsoft customer service. My type cover for my surface pro 8 is magnetically connected but it won’t work at all and the connection won’t register in the tests. Without the type cover my surface pro is essentially useless. I can’t type on the keyboard or use the type cover mouse. I’ve submitted a ticket for customer service and haven’t heard back yet. A service repair is like $180 for a type cover!? I bought your device like 2-3 years ago and it’s still in great condition. Haven’t even dropped it once & it randomly stops working. Wtf. There doesn’t seem to be a scratch or anything. What could I do to fix this?43Views0likes0CommentsSurface Hub S2 does not start recovery mode - what to do?
Hi everyone! We have our Surface Hub S2 in our meeting room, but after a power outage, the Hub won't boot anymore. It only comes up with the white Windows Logo and black background in an infinite loop. So, I just accepted, that I have to factory reset the device. But I am not able to boot from any USB stick. I can enter the UEFI Setup and i can update the configuration via USB stick. But when I try to start via "volume down" and power button, no recovery mode is entered. I tried all 3 USB-C slots and the USB A slot, made bootup sticks with the windows recovery tool and also with the surface IT toolkit. None worked. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way to enter the recovery mode or alter the booting? Thanks, Tim668Views0likes6Comments
