Migrating Data from SharePoint Space to Mesh

I just found out that SharePoint Space is being depreciated. The replacement is Mesh for 3D call environments....

So I have SharePoint Space that I would like to preserve. It's for employees to tour office spaces virtually and it took a long time to make. I have a few questions.

  1. Is Mesh standalone or included in MS 365? Is there an extra charge?
  2. Is there a simple way to migrate Sharepoint Space data to Mesh?
  3. Are there other alternatives besides Mesh?

Thank you

  • Take this:

    • Is Mesh standalone or included in MS 365? Is there an extra charge? Mesh is included in Microsoft 365 and Office 365 commercial subscriptions that have a Teams license. There is also a standalone offering of Teams Essentials for small and medium-sized business customers or Teams Enterprise for enterprise customers.
    • Is there a simple way to migrate SharePoint Space data to Mesh? Currently, there is no direct migration tool available to move SharePoint Space data to Mesh. However, you can manually recreate the 3D environments in Mesh by exporting the assets from SharePoint Space and importing them into Mesh.
    • Are there other alternatives besides Mesh? Yes, there are several alternatives to Microsoft Mesh for creating shared immersive experiences. Some of these alternatives include GlarAssist, Campfire, and holo|one.

Microsoft mesh appears to not replace sharepoint spaces in anyway, firstly it is restricted by licence even though you have a licence and secondly it does not appear to exist in sharepoint! but as a stand alone app requiring a new licence. What exists in Teams is not creative but static.
It is therefore not replacing spaces in any way, and all spaces creations will be lost.

This is a helpful answer. Thank you so much.  Just to clarify, I will have to build the entire environment all over again correct? And by "export" assets like 360 photos. I have to migrate them from one folder to another?

      Thank you

I have exactly the same questions. We have developed a lot of 3D site tours, based on floor / site plans and 3D photos using the Microsoft Spaces tool.

Why can't you just leave this tool in SharePoint for those of us who don't need a 3D chat environment, but simply a way to connect 3D photos taken with camera's, and present it in an easy to use format via SharePoint online, that also doesn't require an upgraded M365 license?

What alternatives is there beside Mesh for simple 3D photo content display and connecting to say floor plans, that offers also the ability to create a walk through by connecting photos?

Following - I have raised an escalated support request via our internal IT help desk.

surely they can maintain the capability for existing assets?
