Hi, I hope someone can help me here. I was given a Surface 1872 with a broken screen to fix. The picture was viewable but yes, the screen needed replacing. I cleaned out the broken screen and bought a brand new one (that was a mistake that I won't make again !!), I then attached the new screen in place of the broken one (not in the lid, just laying above it) and attached it using the 4 cables. The laptop booted up, but there was nothing showing on the screen. I attached a USBC cable and plugged it onto my Monitor's HDMI port and that screen was fine. I then, by accident, touched the laptop screen and bizarrely, the touchscreen was working, just only visible on my monitor, not the new laptop screen. Googling this told me that it was probably a faulty screen. I then bought a second hand replacement screen, apparently tested and fully working, but as part of the whole top, i.e. in and attached to the lid. I replaced the laptop screen again and this time there was still nothing on it, but my monitor showed some flickering & some lines. I therefore disconnected the screen re-attached all of the cable again and rebooted. I hear the laptop boot up, but now I am getting nothing on either screen !!! What on earth could have caused this ? Why, at least, do I not have video on my Monitor when I did before ?!? I have tried CTRL-Win Key-Shift-B & numerous other suggestions but nothing has so far made a difference 😢 ... Any help or advice would be a Godsend !!!47Views0likes2CommentsSurface Laptop 5 abysmally horrible battery life
I bought this laptop 2 years ago for $1.4k. I expect it to have a battery life that lasts more than 3.75 hours. The charger it came with is also incredibly finnicky and this webcam makes everything look like it was recorded on a D-list smart fridge. The only think this crapshoot is good for is the aesthetic. Functionally it's useless. I really expected better from a reputed company like Microsoft.54Views0likes0CommentsSurface Laptop 4 heats up with minimal use or idle, even more when charging
A couple of months ago, I started noticing the fans on my laptop spinning up during pretty light use. Normally they never turned on, except for during heavy use. Now the fans are on by default and the bottom of the chassis is constantly warm, and when charging it's almost too hot to touch. I don't recall having installed something around the same time this started happening. I've never opened the laptop or cleaned the fans. When I open the task manager it's nothing crazy (this is while the fans are very audibly on and the bottom of the laptop is very hot) Any suggestions are more than welcome, thanks! I have verified that this USB works on other PCs/laptops.971Views0likes5CommentsSurface 3 laptop hardware issue
I have just returned a brand new Surface 3 laptop bought 2 days ago. It kept turning itself off constantly. Tech support at the HQ of the store I purchased it from spent considerable time trying to diagnose the problem over the phone. In the end it was diagnosed as a hardware problem not a software. This is very disappointing for a laptop of this quality which surely cannot have passed stringent quality control tests (assume China). I hope my replacement next week is going to be OK.1.4KViews0likes1CommentSurface Laptop 3 - applications starts up slow and with delay
Problem Description: Every application starts up with a delay of 1-2 seconds. Opening another screen of an running program does initalize instantly though.. Build and Firmware I'm running the 20H2 build 19042.685 and have the Surface Laptop 3 firmware from november 2020 installed (SurfaceLaptop3_Win10_18362_20.101.8577.0) Examples: - Applies to any application, offline tooling such as Draw.io, command prompt - Opening a new tab in Chrome is instantly, but when I go to an URL it tends to take seconds before the page is initialized to actually perform and connect to the designated URL. - Opening Git bash takes 2 seconds and then it takes up to a minute to load its content before I can perform any commands Does anyone have any experience regarding my current state?1.4KViews0likes3Comments
