Can I fresh windows 11 install without losing data

Hi all,

I heard a lot of possible feedback about Windows 11 and want to upgrade my Windows 10 PC and laptops to Windows 11. Currently, I don't know how to do that. The PC has a decent set of hardware, including Intel 12 Gen CPU, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, and1T SSD. How can fresh windows 11 install without losing data that without losing data?

I heard clean installing from USB drive will delete all user data, apps and system settings. I won't do that as I want to keep my personal files.

I am not getting the "Reset this PC" or any other option.

I get a check box where I have to agree that all files, apps, and settings will be lost!

My laptop crashed during a Windows update. I have tried everything. Twice, I got Windows to start, but it crashed.

I didn't get much help on the Microsoft Community forum. You can see my post here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_11-wintop_backup/windows-11-will-not-boot-after-a-crash-during-the/c7b3cfc2-d72f-4434-8900-977b19f87a87?page=1

How to fresh windows 11 install without losing data? If you want to do a more traditional clean install while keeping your files, you'll need to follow these steps:
    1. Create Installation Media:
    - Use the Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drive or DVD.
    - Select Create installation media (USB flash drive) and follow the prompts.

    2. Boot from Installation Media:
    - Insert the USB or DVD into your PC and restart it.
    - You may need to change the boot order in your BIOS/UEFI settings to boot from the USB or DVD drive.

    3. Install Windows 11:
    - When the Windows Setup screen appears, choose your language and preferences, then click Next and select Install Now.
    - When prompted to enter the product key, you can skip this step if your device is already activated.

    4. Select the Installation Type:
Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).

    5. Select the Installation Drive:

    - After installation, check that your personal files are still accessible.
    - Reinstall your applications as required.

Part of that fresh start means you’ll need to reinstall your software. If you don’t make a list of what you need off the bat, you could wind up in a frustrating scavenger hunt. When I did my fresh install, I forgot a couple of essential programs and had to go hunting for licenses and downloads, which was a total pain. So, jot down what you gotta reload—your favorite apps, tools, and any important serial numbers. Once you're back in business, you might notice your system acting a bit funny if you forget to update your drivers. I went for a week with a funky display because I skipped updating my graphics drivers after the fresh Windows 11 install without losing data. After I finally got around to it, everything ran smoother. So, after your fresh start, hit up the Device Manager and check for updates on your hardware drivers.

Right after your fresh Windows 11 install, don’t forget about those Windows updates. Sometimes the base install can be missing patches or performance fixes. I know it’s tempting to dive straight into using your fresh OS, but a little patience here goes a long way! Head to Settings > Windows Update and grab any updates to ensure you’ve got all the latest features and security fixes.

If you were using antivirus or firewall apps, don’t forget to reinstall those too. After my last fresh install, I completely spaced on that, and my PC was like a wide-open door. I ended up with some unwanted crap because I was browsing without protection. So, get that security software back in place before you start doing a bunch of online stuff!

So, you’re thinking about refreshing Windows 11 install but wanna keep your data intact? Totally get that!
    1.Get to the Reset Option
Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of refreshing Windows:

    • Click on the Start button (you know, that Windows logo thingy down in the corner).
    • Hit Settings (it looks like a little gear icon).
    • Choose System, then scroll down and click on Recovery.
    • Look for the Reset this PC option. You’ll see it there, staring at you.

    2. Choose How You Wanna Reset
Once you hit Reset this PC, you’ll get two choices:

    • Keep my files: This option will wipe the apps and settings but keep your personal files. This is the golden ticket if you want a fresh system without losing your data.
    • Remove everything: This option is like a hard reset; it wipes everything, so let’s skip that unless you’re ready for a blank slate.

    3. Follow the Prompts
After you select Keep my files, Windows will guide you through the rest. It might ask you some questions about how you want to fresh Windows 11 install without losing data (cloud download or local reinstall). If you have a stable internet connection, usually the cloud option is pretty slick—gets you the latest version and a clean install without fuss.

    4. Let Windows Do Its Thing
Now just sit back and let Windows work its magic. It’ll take some time, so maybe grab a snack or binge a quick show while you wait. Your PC will restart a few times during the process.

    5. Reinstall Your Apps
Once everything is back up and running, you’ll need to reinstall your programs and apps. Unfortunately, this is where you’ll need to remember what you had before, but hey, it’s a good time to clean house! Only reinstall the stuff you really need.

    6. Restore Your Settings
You might have to redo some settings, but the good news is that your personal files will be safe. Check your Documents, Pictures, and any other folders to ensure everything’s in its place.
