Few weeks back, I wrote a blog post on how to do Stock Technical Analysis using Microsoft 365 Copilot and for the deeper data analysis I used M365 Copilot in Excel. That step by step analysis assumed that you have the knowledge of data analysis, Excel, prompting, stock market and of course technical indicators. Which eventually means you are your own Data Analyst…kind of.

Today I am going to perform similar analysis using Analyst agent which was released by Microsoft recently and in a nutshell it works as a your personal Data Scientist. You just download stock data and give it to perform technical analysis and it will do it for you without the knowledge of Python, data analysis, Excel etc. Welcome to the era of Agentic AI.

Adding the Analyst agent

  1. Open the M365 Copilot Chat app.

  2. From the left menu, expand Agents section and select All agents and it will open the Agents Store. Search for Analyst and add the agent.
Microsoft 365 Copilot interface displaying the "Agent Store" with various AI agents and the "All agents" option highlighted.

Use Analyst agent for Stock Technical Analysis

1. Download TSLA’s stock data for past 1 year.

2. Add the downloaded Excel to Analyst agent and give following prompt.

Microsoft 365 Copilot interface with "Analyst (Frontier)" agent and a homework problem on technical analysis using Bollinger Bands.

Look at the stock price data of this company and perform a technical analysis based on Bollinger band and show the Buy and Sell signals by putting Buy in green and Sell in red on the graph. Add Bollinger band on the current graph too.

3. The Analyst will get down to business by performing deep reasoning and it will produce the following output, showing the price action for TSLA stock with Buy and Sell signals generated by the technical analysis.

TSLA Bollinger Bands and Buy/Sell signals

Disclaimer: This is not a financial advice.

Impressive….I know. You don’t even have to know the details of the technical analysis, charting and reading the chart point by point and it will just do it for you. Now all you need to focus on Buy and Sell signals to make a better and quicker investment decision. With Analyst agent, its like having a data scientist on your finger tips.

Now you can take these results and put it in Pages to collaborate with other team members and then take it to the Word document and eventually generate a Power Point presentation.

How does it work?

The entire technical analysis was conducted by the Analyst agent, functioning much like a data scientist. Powered by OpenAI’s o3-mini reasoning model, Analyst is specifically optimized for advanced data analysis in professional settings. It employs chain-of-thought reasoning to methodically work through problems, refining its logic step by step to deliver high-quality, human-like analytical insights. Analyst can also execute Python code to solve complex data queries, with full transparency—allowing you to view the code in real time and verify its outputs.
